Beáta Bajnay

Flamenco has been the love of my life for 20 years now. I feel fortunate to be able to do what I truly love. Dance is my profession, my vocation and my passion all in one Day after day I expereience and discover newer and newer depths within it. This is the genre that needs only to be done and the rest comes with it.

"There is no other genre that can bring to life the attributes of the element of fire better than the flamenco dance. The complex rhythm evokes a sense of unpredictability, the tap of the shoes is like fire creckling on stage while we, the spectators, can admire that no ruffle on a skirt and no movement of the hand dance int he same way twice, just like the flames of a fire." ( Péter Oravecz )

Where's the stage? In or outside?

To the margin of a dance evening

The hall has become full. A single step can't be made. Striking anticipation expands in and outside. Waiting for the start signal. A few moments more and we'll begin. Murmuring another prayer. Must go. Catching sight of the the yet empty stage, my hearbeat is eased.

I'm stepping up, standing there in the spotlight and can see people's heads in front of me.

Everything's fine, tranquility surges through me. I'm at my spot with the ones I have to be together right here and now. I have no fear. I abandon myself to the moment. What shall be, must be. First number. Second and third. I'm dancing. It's turned out to be a bit moderate but it's fine, one has to be like this. We're on the move. Fourth and fifth number. What's next? Well, familiar melody and before I realise I have to do it, I'm making the first move. I'm here. There's the song and nothing else. The movements are born by themselves.

I'm moving together with the melody. The lyrics do not always reach me, I'd rather feel it more than understand it. I'm glowing. Naked. Moving on waves while the song whispers when and where to. Now she is me. Glittering seethe, nothing else. A hardly visible filament's setting off me then disappearing. Lights and coup d'oeil blaze it. A slap or something. The irons are clearing from my heart. Absolving, melting. A little bit more music, a few notes and then the end.

Applause awakens me. I'm stepping out with distraction from my final position. A little bit of dark would do good now but can't have it just carry on. I feel gratitude and joy towards my fellows. Something's wheeling about. The out and the inside is washed away. I can see their dances, themselves as leaving a bit of their memories there while conjuring. The air is dense, eyes rapt in and outside. There's only rythm. Clatters in space. I sense the same way the presence of the soul standing across the hall and the one next to me. The cupola consolidates above us. The ceiling disappears, the moment expands.

Then again the rythm clatters. Ta-dam, ta-dam, ta-ka-tam. Ta-dam, tarijam, ti-ko-ka-tam.  The last flap of my phoenix is followed by silence and where there it was glowing in fire before, now just dustmotes swirl like the echoes in the light of fading lights.

Initiation has happened.

Storm of applause, taking a bow.

„Opened lashed curtain of our eyes

Where stage is;  in or outside

Gents, Ladies?”
